Can Giving Your Horse So Much Freedom Be Right?

Being met with skepticism

When I take my homeschooled child to the store during regular school hours, people often ask her, "Why aren't you in school today?". I always respond with a smile, explaining that she is homeschooled.

Some react with curiosity, others seem unsure or even disapproving. But I welcome these conversations because it's a chance to share why we've made this choice.

And, if people disapprove, I don’t care at all. It’s my life, it’s my choice, and I don’t need to convince anybody; everybody can have their own opinion.

For my students, it’s sometimes a bit similar. Horsefulness Training and especially Liberty Connection Work can be met with skepticism or criticism...

Can giving your horse so much freedom be right?

My students sometimes face questions like, "Can giving your horse so much freedom be right?" or "Won't this lead to problems? You need to be the boss!"

I encourage you, just as I advise my students, to stand firm in your beliefs. Have a talk with people who question your approach, and don't let it get to you if they criticise you.

Trust your instincts

Just trust your instincts and let the positive results speak for themselves. Don’t bother about the people who don’t believe in what you’re doing. Focus on the transformative outcomes you witness with your horse – the positive changes, the strengthened bond, and the overall improvement in your horse's well-being.

Actions speak louder than words, and the results of the Liberty Connection Work speak for themselves.

And hey, it's not uncommon that the people who gave a lot of criticism in the beginning even start to ask for advice when seeing all the positive changes! I've seen it happen many times, that skeptics turn into fans!

If you’re not an active member of Horsefulness Training yet, then go and have a look at our online shop. That’s where you can find all our programs and kick-start your journey. Plus, being an example for all those critics is the icing on the cake 😉
